Everybody always preaches on how God loves everyone, and how we are to *only* love God.
I wonder why in todays culture, they never preach that we are to *only* fear God. (Deut 6:13) Same chapter, both are mentioned; almost the same breath.
Imagine if the only thing we feared was God... not terrorists, not poverty, not spiders, not being alone... just God. My bet is that it would affect peoples behavior far more than anything else.
But of course... you *cant* preach about fearing God - people are just too dumb to understand that you can love Him, and fear him, and that would confuse them... we *cant* preach or teach anything more difficult than "Jesus Loves Me" oh no - that would be....
treating people like divinely created beings, instead of darwinistic animals ;)

Or maybe we've moved out of the paradigm of being afraid of those we love?
Love is a survival mechanism, and being afraid of people you love--usually those stronger than you, like parents and husband--was part and parcel of life for millennia.
Now we realize that's abusive and we don't have to live with fear.
